Chicken butt coasters

Looking for something fun to make? Wanna give people a good laugh? Check out these chicken butt coasters! A perfect crochet project for Easter and farm / chicken lovers.

The last few years the peeking cat butt coasters were extremely popular. People started making a lot of variations, like dog and chicken butt coasters.

Some crafters shared funny versions of their chicken butt coasters on Facebook (which got deleted from the Facebook group one day later), which inspired me to make chicken butt coasters for Easter.

As there were no patterns available for the chicken butt coasters, I decided to make my own version and share the pattern of my version on my blog.

The pattern is kinda easy and I think the chicken butt coasters can be a doable project for beginners as well. All you need to know is some basic stitches like chains, single crochet and double crochet.

I have added a few picture tutorials to guide you and below you can find a video tutorial as well.

Video

I made a video tutorial of the Chicken butt coaster.
P.s. the yarn in the video is different than the cotton yarn I used for my pattern. I’m currently on a trip and didn’t have the correct cotton yarn, so I bought cheap acrylic yarn to use in this video. I highly recommend using cotton yarn, it turns out nicer and looks better after using!

Pattern

Chicken body

Start with pink yarn
Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring (6)

Change to yellow yarn
Round 2: increase x6 (12)

Round 3: (sc, increase) x6 (18)

Round 4: 1sc, increase, (2sc, increase) x5, 1sc (24)

Round 5: (3sc, increase) x6 (30)

Round 6: 2sc, increase, (4sc, increase) x5, 2sc (36)

Round 7: (5sc, increase) x6 (42)

Round 8: 3sc, increase, (6sc, increase) x5, 3sc (48)

Do not cut the yarn, we are going to continue working on the feathers.

Feathers

I continued working on the feathers without cutting the yarn. Make the following stitches:

1 half double crochet in next sitch
1 double crochet in next 3 stitches
2 treble crochet in next stitch
1 double treble crochet in next stitch
2 treble crochet in next stitch
1 double crochet in next 3 stitches
1 half double crochet in next stitch
1 single crochet in next stitch
1 slip stitch in next stitch

Cut the yarn and weave in end.

Head

Round 1: 6 sc in a MR, close with slip stitch, ch1, turn (6)

Round 2: 2sc in first sc, 4sc, 2sc in next sc, ch1, turn (8)

Round 3: 2sc in first sc, 6sc, 2 sc in next sc, ch1, turn (10)

Round 4: 2sc in first sc, 1sc, 1 dc, 2 dc in next sc, 3 treble crochet in next sc, 2 dc in next sc, 1 dc, 3sc (15)

Comb

Find the three stitches in the middle of the head. Attach red yarn to the stitch on the right with a slip stitch.

Stitch 1 (right): Chain 3, slip stitch in same stitch.

Stitch 2 (middle): Slip stitch in next stitch, chain 3, slip stitch in same stitch.

Stitch 3 (left): Slip stitch in last stitch, chain 3, slip stitch in same stitch.

Cut the yarn and weave in ends.

Legs

Use orange yarn. Find the stitch in the middle on the bottom part of the body. Count 5 stitches to the left and 5 to the right. In those stitches you will attach the legs.

Attach the yarn with a slip stitch, chain 30 and make a slip stitch in the same stitch as where you started.

Now shape the chains in a leg with 3 toes (see picture). You can use glue to keep it all together, or you can use a needle and thread.

On the pictures below I used glue, in the video above I used yarn and thread.

Eyes and beak

I used black yarn for the eyes and orange for the beak. I used a tapestry needle to sew it on the face. Take a look at my picture to see where you have to sew the eyes and beak!
