Tips before we begin joining squares..

  1. Choose a yarn color that matches at least one of the squares as the seam will be visible.
  2. Make sure that the stitches of both squares are aligned. If you are working with squares that have different stitch counts, it is helpful to use pins or stitch markers to keep the squares together nice and even.
  3. Use a loose tension while joining the squares. If you tend to crochet tightly, consider using a larger hook size.

Step 1:
Lay out your granny squares in the desired arrangement.

Step 2:
Hold two squares together with the right sides facing outwards.

Step 3:
Start in the corner chain of both squares. Insert your hook into the front loop of the chain facing you and the back loop of the other square. Yarn over and pull the yarn through, creating a slip stitch.

Step 4:
In the next stitch, insert your hook into the front loop of the square facing you and the back loop of the other square. Yarn over, pull the yarn through, creating a slip stitch.

Step 5:
Continue slip stitching across the sides of the squares, working through the corresponding stitches or spaces.

Step 6:
When reaching the next corner, make sure to work through the corner chains or stitches of both squares to maintain alignment.

Repeat this process for each side of the squares until all sides are joined.

Fasten off and weave in the ends.
