Make this beautiful crochet shawl with flowers using my free pattern! After finishing the Vela Flower Shawl, I decided to make a shawl that’s completely made with just 1 of the 3 flower stitches that were used for the original design.

This shawl features Vela’s Flower Friend 2 which is made with puff stitches. It’s a triangle shawl worked top-down and full of visual texture. This beautiful crochet flower shawl pattern is available for free and includes a video tutorial.

About Vela

The Vela Flower Shawls are dedicated to Vela, my 4 year old mini-me from San Diego who also was my flower girl when I got married in Las Vegas.

Vela has the same blond hair, blue eyes and even the same character and temper as I had at that age: literally my mini-me!

She absolutely loves flowers. She always wants to smell them and calls flowers her flower friends.

About the design

This crochet flower shawl is a simple version of the Vela Flower Shawl which is inspired by Vela’s love for flowers. The shawl features 3 unique flower stitches a.k.a. ‘Vela’s Flower Friends’.

The Vela Flower Friend Shawl 1Vela Flower Friend Shawl 2 and Vela Flower Friend Shawl 3 respectively feature 1 of the 3 stitches. Make a shawl with your favorite flower stitch or go all the way and combine all 3 stitches in the original Vela Flower Shawl!

About the pattern

This shawl is worked top-down and features mostly basic stitches such as dc, sc and chains.

This shawl contains three different sections each featuring the Vela Flower Friend stitch 1

Between the flower sections are 7 rows of dc, post stitches and dc worked in the back loop only. This creates a beautiful texture.

Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered with a video tutorial which shows how to make this shawl.

About my Story Shawls

I was born with a benign tumor on my face. For over 22 years, doctors were unable to diagnose it. In 2017, I did a second opinion (though honestly, it was more like the 10th opinion) and was finally diagnosed with an ultra-rare condition that affects only a handful of people worldwide.

Since then, I have been actively searching for others with this condition, and I have already found 100 people from all over the world. It has become my life goal to find and meet them.

Many of my upcoming patterns are special shawl designs inspired by my “extended family” as I like to call them.

Story Shawl Collection

I’m working on a shawl collection dedicated to my ‘extended family‘.

I released my first shawl in 2018, and I plan to continue creating them as long as I keep finding new people with the same rare condition as me.

All patterns are available for free including video tutorials.

Tassels

Tassels are great for a final touch. It’s very easy to make them using a tassel maker.

1. Wound yarn around the tassel maker 6o times. Cut two more strands which are about 40 cm / 16″.

2. Add a knotted cord on top

3. Cut the yarn on the bottom (opposite of your knot)

4. Knot a strand around the tassel, about 1 cm from the top knot

5. Trim the bottom

Blocking

If your shawl shape looks a bit off, for example without a straight edge, you can easily fix it with the blocking method. I wrote a blocking tutorial here.
